First came the CLX 64. Then 32. And after accumulating multiple victories in the Great Rounds, the World Cups, and all the rest, we knew that our best bet was to go beyond, or good, to new depths. We needed to design a wheel that was a real chilly kill. A wheel that had all the aerodynamic benefits of the 64 on a set that climbs like those of 32, and that's where the new CLX 50 come in.

PROPERTIES

When we proposed to create the CLX 50 disc, we had the clear objectives: to create 48 to 54 mm deep wheels, streamlined aerodynamically, ultra wide and less than 1400 grams. This meant that they would have to borrow some weight-saving techniques that we developed for CLX 32, take some CLX 64 aerodynamics, and keep all the benefits of the disk brakes that we have come to love if we were to create what we like to call "the unicorn wheel".
Why records? With our disc-specific tires, we get rid of the braking track to make a louder and more impact resistant tire. In this way, you get a specific carbon layer for the disk that optimizes stiffness, a weight as close as possible to your tire brake sisters, an incredible brake modulation and power under all conditions.
Although the CLX 50 have a weight similar to that of many wheels in the "lightweight weight" category, the aerodynamics stood at the forefront of development. With this, we jumped from head to computer modeling of the Computational Fluid Dynamic to reach various forms of tire that could make CLX 50 as fast and light as possible. It took us a while, but we reduced the shape of the tire to three contenders who were then machined by CNC in tires, built in wheels, and placed in the Wind Tunnel. In the tunnel, we tested each wheel, ours and the one in the competition, with a 24CC tire (which measures 26CC), as tires can drastically affect the tests. We chose a modern-width tire to design our tires, because they not only allow a lower pressure of the tires (which results in more comfort and less resistance to the bearing), but are also equal to efficient aerodynamically when mounted with the right tire width.
After finding the optimized shape of the tire that best supported our slender weight requirements, we opted to mount the tires to our Aero Flange (AF) hub, through 24 radios DT Swiss Aerolite, which features legendary CeramicSpeed bearings. This way you get a complete and superior wheel system, not just a quick tire. And at the end of the day, all this amounts to a 50 mm deep rear wheel and 770 grams that is not only significantly lighter than the similar profile wheel of the competition, but is also faster in all imaginable tests than each wheel in its category.
